The Red Lip Trend Is Back!
Just like Bill Blass says: "when in doubt, wear red." However, when trying to pull off a dark red lipstick you want to be able to wear it with confidence and not be mistaken for a Halloween affair or for a wanna-be Beyonce gone wrong.
So here is 7 Essential Tips from Cosmopolitan on how to pull off a dark lip colour:
1. Save your burgundy-coloured lipstick for the fall months or evening events.
2. Know what shade will suit you best. There are four basic undertones to the colour burgundy (i.e. pink, brown, blue and red). Here is how to determine which shade will suit you best:
If you have light-coloured eyes then one should go for a more pink-based burgundy. This shade will enhance your eyes making them stand out more.
If you have dark colour eyes then a brown undertoned burgundy will be best-suited for you.
Whilst, in terms of a blue-based burgundy this shade isn't too light nor dark for a woman that has either a light eye colour such as Blake Lively or is dark eyed.
For a deep red burgundy shade - this is better suited for woman who are burnettes as their hair colour tends to balance out and support the intensity of the colour.
3. Always test out the colour first. Once you have figured out what shade of burgundy best suits you, then try it when you in the beauty store to determine whether or not the colour brightens up your face or if it makes you look extremely tired and withdrawn. If it does lighten up your face and suits your skin complexion then you will definitely know that it is the best shade for you.
4. Use a lip brush when you apply your lipstick. The best way to apply your burgundy lipstick is with a lip brush because of the dark shade it can get messy very quickly. So to try do this with precision start by applying the lip colour from the corner of your mouth towards the centre and then do the same from the other side and for both your upper and lower lip.
5. Apply your matching lip-liner afterwards. Once you have completed putting on your lipstick with a lipbrush then use a lip-liner pencil that matches your lipstick and steadily outline your lips. The reason why you would use a burgundy lip-liner pencil afterwards is that it can often be too overwhelming which distracts a person away from the actual lipstick colour
6. Leave the lip-glow finish. If you would like to you can add lipgloss over your lipstick to give it an extra shine however you do not necessarily need to add any more attention than what the lipstick already has to offer. However, if you feel that you need it because your lips feel a bit dry then maybe put lip-ice on your lips before you apply the lipstick on with a lip brush.
7. Lastly, Wear your lip-colour with confidence.
